Counseling for Internet Porn Addiction

  • 5 Dec, 2016

Developing a porn addiction is very similar to developing a drug addiction. With a drug addiction it begins when a person has a euphoric experience from sampling a certain type of drug.  Then the person seeks to duplicate that euphoria because it was viewed as a positive experience.  Over time, the addict builds a tolerance and then needs more and more in order to reach that euphoric state.

Internet Porn addiction follow a similar path.  After the person has a sexual release their first time from viewing porn, and if it was viewed as a positive experience, they will try to repeat the process.  Overtime, the person builds up a tolerance and needs more and more in order to reach that initial positive experience.

The problem really arises when the urge to view porn takes over a person’s daily schedule. Some porn addicts report staying at home for porn sessions that can last as long as 8-10 hours.  Obviously this would begin to cause problems with maintaining an employment schedule, making time for friends and family, and caring for one’s personal and financial needs.

The main (and most alarming) difference between drug addiction and internet porn addiction is the cost.  Drugs costs money whereas online porn can be viewed for free.

The anonymity of viewing internet porn will many times fuel this addiction!
