HIPAA Security Rule for Therapists

  • 18 May, 2017

HIPAA established the Security Rule to ensure that all covered entities have implemented safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and access of PHI.

Let's Talk Counseling utilizes Secure Video to facilitate etherapy sessions, the same technology utilized by many large healthcare organizations in the emerging telemedicine industry.

THE HIPAA SECURITY RULE HAS THREE PARTS:

Technical Safeguards: Access Control, Audit Control, Integrity, Person or Entity Authentication, Transmission Security

Physical Safeguards: Facility Access Controls, Workstation Use, Workstation Security, Device and Media Controls

Administrative Safeguards: Security Management Process, Assigned Security Responsibility, Workforce Security, Information Access Management, Security Awareness and Training, Security Incident Procedures, Contingency Plan, Evaluation, Business Associate Contracts and Other Arrangements

We encourage you to read more about the HIPAA Security Rule. The above safeguards are "required". There are also "addressable" safeguards. It's important to emphasize that the "addressable" safeguards are not optional there is just a little more flexibility in how they can be implemented.
